League of Legends: Liga Republika to serve as qualifier to LCP Wildcard
Filipino League of Legends players now have a direct path to qualify for the LoL Championship Pacific (LCP) wildcard playoffs.
Riot Games announced this as they revealed details for the 2025 edition of Liga Republika. This means a direct path for Filipino League of Legends (LoL) talent to battle teams from around Asia-Pacific and possibly the world, amid LCP’s massive reformat.
“This is a huge moment for Philippine esports, finally giving local talent a direct path from national competition to the international stage under Riot’s new promotion-relegation system,” Riot Games Philippines said in a statement.
The winner of Liga Republika will represent the Philippines in the LCP Wildcard Playoffs, facing teams from other Asia-Pacific countries for a spot in the LCP’s Promotion and Relegation Tournament (P&R Tournament). Excelling in the P&R Tournament means a chance to place in the LCP – the Asia-Pacific’s largest regional league, which is a direct pathway to qualify for Worlds later on.
“This revamped structure rewards competitive merit over invitation, and gives aspiring teams the opportunity to rise from grassroots to pro play. For Filipino teams, the path is clear: the eligible Champion team of Liga Republika can advance to the LCP Wildcard Playoffs, then fight for a spot in the P&R Tournament for a chance to place in the LCP,” Riot Games said in their statement.
Riot Games Philippines Country Manager Joel Guzman believes this is a huge step for the local League of Legends ecosystem, amid the company’s efforts to make the esports scene more proactive since it reacquired publishing rights to the game in Southeast Asia in 2023, pinpointing Philippines as a key market.
“For years, the community has been hungry for a real path to international play. With the direct linking of Liga Republika to the LCP ecosystem, we’re proud to finally make that a reality and take a big step forward for Philippine LOL esports,” Guzman said.
Liga Republika will open registration until June 30, with open qualifiers from July 4-8. Group Stage matches will happen from July 10 to 13, and playoffs will happen from July 19 to 27.
There will be a “Fearless Draft” feature in the semis and the grand finals.
The winner will also get a lion’s share of the P860,000 prize pool.
The new format will “challenge even the most-seasoned players,” Kimi Salazer, MOBA Brand Manager at Riot Games, shared.
“We’re committed to empowering the community now that the path to global recognition is within reach. Through Liga Republika, Filipino players continue to prove they have what it takes to compete on the world stage, and we’re here to support their journey,” she added.
