Team Secret Forfeit StarLadder XI Tiebreakers Due to ‘Changes’, VPP and HR Qualify for LAN Finals
Team Secret forfeit their chance to qualify for the Local Area Network (LAN) finals of StarLadder (SL) XI due to future changes preventing the team from attending the main event, Team Secret said in a Facebook post.
“Team Secret will no longer be taking part in the tie-breakers for Starladder Season 11 later today as we are unable to attend the main event itself,” Team Secret wrote. “The team will soon be undergoing some changes in the near future that will prevent us from taking our current roster to the Season 11 LAN.”
The three-way tiebreakers between Team Secret, Virtus.Pro Polar (VPP) and HellRaisers (HR) were set today to determine the final two qualifying European teams for the LAN finals in Kiev, Ukraine. With Team Secret out of contention, VPP and HR round-up the four qualifying European teams, completing the 8-team LAN finals.
Team Secret “felt that it would be unfair” for the other teams if they make the said changes after qualifying for Ukraine because it would violate the rules of the tournament.
“We felt that it would be unfair to Virtus.pro Polar and HellRaisers if we made these changes after qualifying to the LAN as it would be a breach of the rules set in place by Starladder,” Team Secret wrote.
The team also said in the statement that they will have another announcement early next year in line with the changes that they are undergoing. They also added that they “will make a return” for SL XII.
“We will be making another announcement at the beginning of next year with more details on the changes that are on the way,” Team Secret wrote. “Team Secret will make a return to Starladder’s Star Series for Season 12 later next year.”
Team Secret is considered as one of the best Dota 2 teams in the world at the moment, with an overwhelming 79% overall win rate.
The qualified teams for SL XI are America’s FIRE, Southeast Asia’s (SEA) bet MVP.Phoenix (MVP), China’s Invictus Gaming (iG) and CDEC Gaming (CDEC), and Europe and CIS’ teams Lajons, VPP, HR and Team Empire (Empire).
The SL XI LAN Finals, which has a current prize pool of $123,468 (P5.5 million~), will be held at Cyberspots Arena in Kiev, Ukraine from Jan. 15, 2015 to Jan. 18, 2015.
