The Versus eSports Smash Wii U Circuit Begins
The first ever major tournament for Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. for Wii U (Smash Wii U) this 2015 occurred Saturday, Feb. 7, at PlayBook Video Game Lounge and BookShop in Pergola BF, Parañaque. Twenty-four players across the metro participated in the event, with Patrick “DJR” Levy taking the crown after losing only two games throughout the tournament.

Versus eSports, a media organization in the Philippines, kicked off the Versus Smash Circuit last Saturday, the first of its kind for Smash Wii U. The circuit will last for 10 weeks, with eight weekly tournaments each played at Rumpus Room and PlayBook. Two major tournaments will be played at the latter. Players earn circuit points by competing in these events and those who earn enough will become eligible to join the Grand Finals at the end of the season.
DJR has dominated the Smash Wii U scene since last year, winning the Smash 3DS tournament at E-Sports and Gaming Summit (ESGS) last November and New Years’ Cleave last January. Known for his signature Mario, he already created a strong lead coming into the tournament after winning the first Rumpus Room weekly and PlayBook’s major tournament in the same week. Trailing just behind him are Myk “L1nk” Villaflor and Robert “Desperado” Locsin, who used Megaman/Fox and Sheik respectively.
