Southeast Asian (SEA) Dota 2 will once again prove that it will not be left behind.

With more than P2 million ($50, 000) at stake, Filipinos will once again host the Mineski Pro Gaming League (MPGL), one of the biggest Dota 2 tournaments in SEA, that will be held on Selangor, Malaysia on May 9-10, 2015.

Currently on its first leg, twelve teams will be coming in from six countries to battle it out in the grand finals of MPGL: four teams for Malaysia, two teams for Thailand, two teams for the Philippines, one team for Indonesia and one team for Singapore.

One invited team from China and one team to represent the rest of SEA will be rounding out the slots.

FEATURED STORIES

Qualifying matches for the Philippines and Thailand will be held in conjunction with the Gigabyte E-Sport Tournament. The event will feature eight teams, with the top two teams qualifying for the MPGL

On the other hand, Malaysian qualifiers must undergo a single elimination, Best-of-1 format. The top 16 teams will advance to the second phase where they will be divided into four brackets and will fight for the four slots in the grand finals.

Other qualifying matches will have a more traditional format similar to Malaysia’s open bracket system but will be followed by a Best-of-3 elimination that will eventually result in a single team advancing to the MPGL grand finals.

MPGL is a recurring online tournament. Last year, MPGL VI had a total prize pool of $22,000, making it the largest Dota 2 tournament in the Philippines.
