RAVE vs. NINJAS IN PYJAMAS
UB Round 1 – Game 1 of 3 – NiP
Rave’s first game in the MAS resulted in a staggering defeat, as Ninjas in Pyjamas takes the first game with an amazing display of Dota 2. Early game dominance by NiP’s Limmp on his safelane Axe and NiP Era’s Shadow Fiend proved to be too much for the #RAVEolution. By the 29th minute, Era and Limmp were too farmed to handle, and RAVE could not get free from NiP’s grip. GG’s were called by the 40th minute, when even RAVE Jeyo’s Medusa, equipped with a Skadi, Maelstrom and Manta Style, couldn’t handle the damage output of Era and Limmp.
The problem with RAVE in this first game could be summed up in three things: the lack of chutzpah from RAVE ryOyr’s Tidehunter, poor item choices and the unnecessary dives committed by RAVE. ryOyr seemed to have been too hesitant to Blink Ravage in several instances, and it cost RAVE several teamfights. Chrissy’s greedy plays overshadowed his good ones, resulting in him conceding several deaths. Lastly, Black King Bar wins games.
UB Round 1 – Game 2 of 3 – RAVE
It seems RAVE has bounced back from their first round loss against the Ninjas in Pyjamas. This time, the Axe was picked up by the OFGs and once again, we were witness to the hero’s potential for early game domination. It seems that ryOyr has finally warmed up as he captained the 19 -4 Axe in this game. The first fight for the Aegis was the turning point for the game, as ryOyr counter-initiates perfectly, resulting in 4 heroes dead for NiP and an Aegis for Jeyo. From there, NiP was unstoppable. GGs were called at 38 minutes, and in true Jeyo style, Jeyo delivers the first and only Rampage of the game.
Once again, we see how early game dominance can make or break the game for these teams. NiP lacked space to farm, and conceded kills due to the early game strength of the Axe. Ultimately, NiP’s Jonas on Jakiro became weight NiP could not carry, resulting in under-farmed heroes in the midgame. The snowball effect took over as NiP could not defend against the stopping power of the Axe and Templar Assassin.
UB Round 1 – Game 3 of 3 – NiP
Ninjas in Pyjamas clinched the game and the round when RAVE called GG at the 77th minute. The early game belonged to RAVE, where at one point they led the game at 19 -4. RAVE’s Chrissy was dominating the early game with a farmed Ember Spirit. But, as the game progressed, RAVE seemed to lose momentum gradually thus giving the advantage to NiP. By the 50th minute, the game was at a stalemate. With NiP’s Limmp (as Bristleback) and Era (as Troll Warlord) being six-slotted and at a sizable gold advantage over all of RAVE, it was clear that they had the better hand. Despite the risky but effective Double Divine Rapier play on Chrissy’s Ember Spirit, it was no match to the unorthodox but effective Refresher Orbs on both Limmp and Era. Ending in a beautiful clash, RAVE’s ancient falls to the power of the Bristleback and the Troll Warlord. Refresher Battle Trance works.
Once again, we see the skill and experience of the Swedes take the cake. RAVE’s momentum dropped heavily in the game; whether or not it was due to nerves or poor decision making, we don’t know. What we do know is, once again, in-game innovation can result in glory (despite it being risky). Combined with the top-tier support plays from NiP’s Handsken (as Vengeful Spirit) and Sealkid (as Dazzle), the determination of Jonas to isolate the Ember Spirit with his Batrider, and the unorthodox double-Battle-Trance and double-Abyssal Blade, NiP bags the win.
