Bandai Releases New Filipino-Inspired Character for Tekken 7
A Filipino-inspired character was released earlier today for the latest installment of the critically-acclaimed fighting game Tekken, according to a social media post.
Josie Rizal — named after Jose Rizal, the Philippine national hero — who specializes in “eskrima and kick-boxing” is set to hit Tekken 7, according to the Facebook post of Mark Julio, a community manager for MadCatz.com, who co-developed the said character.
“I was very happy to help [working on] on this and name this character with the [Tekken] Project Team. Thanks Harada-san & team for involving me!” Julio wrote on his social media page.
Josie sports a bunny headband, long blouse and miniskirt which are inspired by the Philippine flag colors — red, yellow and blue — as well as gladiator sandals.
Here is a demo video showing off her gameplay:
Tekken, otherwise known as “Iron Fist”, is a fighting game series created by Namco in 1994. It has seen many sequels and spin-offs and is a game where two players face-off against each other, selecting their fighter from a pool of characters and aiming to win bouts against opponents, which may vary from the relaxing best-of-ones to the head-wracking best-of-seven matches.
