Rave Exclusion Draws Ire of Netizens, Professional Community
With Rave’s exclusion in getting direct invites in this year’s The International, members of the professional community expressed their opinions at the snub.
Korea-based Philippine team, Rave, placed highly at the Dota 2 Asian Championships (DAC) and was expected to represent the Southeast Asian (SEA) region in the The International 5, Dota 2’s grandest tournament, happening in August at Seattle, USA.
Instead, Malaysian team Team Malaysia was the last team to be invited directly into the main event. Team Malaysia is composed of past The International competitors and was formed only two months ago.
BeyondTheSummit founder and professional commentator David “LD” Gorman tweeted his full support for Rave while disagreeing, along with professional Dota 2 player Kurtis ‘Aui_2000’ Ling of Evil Geniuses, at Team Malaysia’s inclusion.
European team Cloud 9 captain Jacky ‘EnternaLEnvy‘ Mao and Russian commentator Vitali ‘v1lat’ Volochai questioned Valve’s process at deciding which teams are to be given a direct invite.
American Dota 2 professional player Jimmy “Demon” Ho even tweeted a reddit comment which related Manny Pacquiao’s loss with Rave not receiving an invite.
Meanwhile, Rave accepted Valve’s decision and promised its supporters that they will give their all in the upcoming qualifiers.
The teams that received an invite include: Vici Gaming, Evil Geniuses, Team Seacret, Invictus Gaming, LGD Gaming, Cloud 9, Team Empire, Virtus Pro, Newbee and Team Malaysia.
Rave will be playing in the regional qualifiers that will start on May 25 – June 1, 2015.
