The Missing Key to Gambit’s Success
Gambit Gaming is one of Europe’s most beloved organizations. Though they’re a far cry from their former glory, the team was once Moscow 5, the legendary Russian Overlords that reshaped the landscape of competitive League of Legends. With that pedigree, it’s easy to see why fans have hung onto the team, despite their steady decline in power.
Most recently however, Gambit had a middling finish to the Spring Split of the European LoL Championship Series (5th – 6th place), losing out to up and coming stars Unicorns of Love in the playoffs.
All that seemed destined to change when Gambit signed on Konstantinos “FORG1VEN” Tzortziou, who had just left the SK Gaming organization. Not only was Tzortziou the MVP of the Spring Split, he’s the self-proclaimed best bottom lane in Europe… by far.
Fans were naturally excited about the move, as you can see here:
But scroll through and you’ll see a point where things take a turn for the worse. That’s because Gambit didn’t pick up a single win last week, leaving them at the bottom of the standings. That’s right, in the above Twitter feed, you can pinpoint the exact moment where Gambit fans went from this: To this: It’s just as well, because the first loss Gambit suffered was against Elements, a team that struggled to even avoid relegation last split. You can view the game highlights here to see how much of a slaughter that was for Gambit:
And while many thought their second game would turn their fortunes around, Gambit lost to Team ROCCAT, a team that actually did have to defend their LCS spot at the end of last split.
Sure, Gambit did much better in their second game, but poor decision making and what some would call an inefficient pick and/or build by FORG1VEN himself were low points for Gambit. The worst part is, there could be a concrete reason as to why Gambit fared so poorly last week, and it has nothing to do with any misfired Ezreal ults. In a recent ask.fm, FORG1VEN attempted to shed some light on some less than favorable living conditions for him and his team.
Do you believe FORG1VEN? Do you think Gambit’s missing key to success in week 1 was literally a missing key? How much of a Gambit Gaming fan are you, even? Take this test to find out:
