Google Has Thrown Its Hat into the Videogame Streaming Ring With YouTube Gaming
While Google may have lost the bidding war over Twitch.tv — the world’s largest videogame streaming website — to Amazon, the tech giant has evidently not given up its claim on the videogame streaming market.
On the official YouTube blog, Product Manager Alan Joyce, announced YouTube’s latest application, YouTubeGaming.
“This summer, we’ll launch YouTube Gaming, a brand new app and website to keep you connected to the games, players, and culture that matter to you, with videos, live streams, and the biggest community of gamers on the web—all in one place.”
YouTube Gaming will allow people to bookmark their favorite games and more importantly their favorite gamers, such that their videos and streams will appear on the YouTube user dashboard. YouTube promises “more than 25,000 games will each have their own page, a single place for all the best videos and live streams about that title. You’ll also find channels from a wide array of game publishers and YouTube creators.”
What does this mean for videogame streamers and content creators? With subscription rules and advertising revenues dropping on Twitch due to the proliferation of ad blockers like AdBlocker, YouTube might just eventually overpower the Amazon-bought streaming service.
YouTube Gaming will be available this summer, starting in the U.S. and U.K. Esports Inquirer will be at E3 next week to catch an early glimpse at everything we’ve been working on. You an also tune in live from home at youtube.com/e3 or follow @YouTubeGaming for the latest updates.
