Mineski Announces P50,000 Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Tournament
In what could be hailed as a new landmark for the Philippine FPS community, local gaming organization Mineski announces their first-ever Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) tournament in recent years.
The Shootout – CS:GO Invitational features four of Philippines’ top-flight teams, which include 5Peaks, Strategic AC Gaming, Expendables and Raised by Wolves. These four teams will duke it out for a portion of the P50.000 prize pool, with the format of the tournament starting with a best-of-two round robin bracket followed by a best-of-five stepladder bracket in which the loser of each round is eliminated from the tournament.
Spread over a period of six weeks, tournament aims “to provide a better picture of what the competitive hierarchy in local CS:GO looks like”. This move comes in the heels of ESL announcing that they are planning to include the Asian region in the future editions of their league as well as pick-up game service FACEIT opening up servers in the Southeast Asian region.
With CS:GO viewership rates increasing rapidly and the international popularity of the acclaimed game title rising as time goes by, the move can be seen as an attempt to reintroduce the game in the local gaming scene.
