Game publisher Valve has finally reached their stretch goal for The International 5 (TI5) as the total prize money gets beyond the $15 million mark. With the current prize pool completely surpassing last year’s record of $10.93 million, this year’s edition of TI features the highest prizepool for any single Esports event in history.

With the last stretch goal unlocked, Compendium users can soon enjoy their Special Axe Immortal item, along with a longform comic featuring the same hero.

In comparison, major sporting events such as the National Football League (NFL) have a prize pool of $6.5 million, while the PGA Tour 2014 stands at $10 million. Furthermore, the Cricket World Cup, which is considered to be the biggest tournament in cricket, only boasts a $10.2 million cash prize.

Even though the prize pool for TI5 is still a far cry from the prizes offered for the FIFA World Cup and the Champions League, this year’s TI now carries its own weight beside major traditional sporting tournaments in terms of cash.

Currently, the prize pool stands at $15,003,250 (P676,803,700) as of press time. Valve is yet to announce the monetary prize distribution at the time of writing.
