Esports Festival: Biggest Gaming Event in Mindanao
As part of promoting eSports throughout the country and encouraging the aspiring professional gamers in Mindanao, ESports Festival (ESF) will be held on July 16-19 in SM City General Santos City.
ESF Mindanao will host the International eSports Federation (IeSF) Mindanao Qualifiers where the winner will have a chance to represent the country in the upcoming IeSF World Championship in Poland.
Aside from the IeSF Mindanao Qualifiers, ESF will also host the Gen. San. Dota League Championship.
ESF caters not just to gaming enthusiasts but to everyone with events like the cosplay competition and Rigs show. Other gaming tournaments include Yugioh and Vanguard, two trading card games.
Because of the popularity of Clash of Clans (COC), there is also a COC meet-up in the event.
ESF, according to Ricky Taguding chairman of Mindanao Internet Cafe Alliance (MICA), will pave the way for Mindanao to produce top teams in the future which can change the landscape of gaming.
“Mindanao Internet Cafe Alliance (MICA) in partnership with PeSO will open the doors for Mindanao Gamers to gain bigger exposure and show prospective sponsors that there is a gaming market in Mindanao,” said Taguding.
Currently, exposure to the professional gaming scene for aspiring professional players come from either Luzon or Visayas.
MICA hosts Regional Cyber Collegiate League as part of their support in the industry and they continue to fight for the approval of the local government to push for a Summer Olympics.
“Big events like this will open the eyes of the local government to support eSports in Mindanao,” said Taguding.
