This Is Why You Should Never Celebrate Prematurely
Regardless of which eSport you’re into, whether it’s any of the hundred Multiplayer Online Battle Arenas (MOBAs) or any of the twitch-first person shooter games out in the market, one thing is clear — it’s a competition from start to finish.
That’s why, when you’re in the middle of a fight, it’s important that you don’t celebrate early…at least, not until you know for sure that you’ve already won.
At the Guilty Gear X tournament at Evo 2015, Woshige (playing Milla) went up against Ogawa (playing Zato-1) at the winners’ bracket semifinals.
After winning a round against Ogawa, Woshige stands up and faces the crowd, excitedly throwing up his hands in the air. Thinking the entire time that he has already won the match.
The problem? He won Round 2, tying up the match series at 1-1, with a final deciding match yet to be played.
As Woshige celebrated and did his rounds on the stage, the final round started and Ogawa took quick control and dispatched Woshige in mere seconds.
Then it was Ogawa’s turn to celebrate.
