Premiere Dota 2 Tourney Down to Three Teams, Each Secure $2 Million
After five days of double-elimination competition, only three teams remain in the $18-million The International 5 (TI5) Dota 2 tournament with all of them taking home a guaranteed $2 million pocket prize.
Wild Card team CDEC.Gaming (CDEC) dropped America’s pride Evil Geniuses (EG) to the losers bracket 2-0, securing themselves a whopping $2.8 million (P128 million~) prize as of writing.
While Chinese squad LGD.Gaming (LGD) bested their fellow Chinese team Vici Gaming (VG) 2-1, last year’s runner-up, setting a date with EG in the losers bracket finals. The winner of LGD vs EG tomorrow morning (3 a.m., Philippine Standard Time) will secure the final slot in the Grand Finals and the loser would go home with $2 million (P91.6 million~).
VG placed fourth going home with at least $1.5 million (P68.7 million~). The Grand Finals champion will win at least $6.5 million (P297.7 million~).
The fifth day of TI5 is a reminiscent of last year’s competition. Three teams – one from America and two from China – remain at the end of the fifth day with a wild card team clear-cutting their way from the wild card stage up to the Grand Finals.
