Crowd Commentary: Feedback from Manila Cup 2015
As one final look at Manila Cup 2015, we were able to garner some feedback about the event from all the people that participated. From the foreign visitors to the hometown heroes and spectators, we asked around what they thought of the first international fighting game major in the country.
A lot commented of course on the international representation…
– Raymund Tan, USF4
– Allen Tan, USF4, Guilty Gear
– Mike Joson, USF4
While others were impressed with the logistics…
– LM Monserrat, Smash
– Ry Dael, BlazBlue, Guilty Gear
Even non-fighting game fanatics really enjoyed the event…
– Samuel Hamada, FPS Player
-Kendrick Haw, Gundam VS Player
Some were there specifically for the competition…
– Peter Chua Jr., UMVC 3
– Albert, USF4
– John Ragasajo, USF4, MKX
Our international visitors had to give the event and the local community props.
– Peter Quiambao, Guam, UMVC3, USF4
– Hoang-Han Kim, Japan, USF4
– Frankie Frank, USA, Smash
However…
While the event was largely a success, it was not free from troubles. When we talked to the organizers post-event, Imperium owner Raphael “Prime” Gancayco pointed out one specific problem during the event:
Indeed, the organizers were forced to stream on LTE during the event due to problems with their connection. This echoes back to an earlier event this year for CS:GO, where the Filipinos lost to Indonesian competitors due to issues attributed to in-game latency.
If the Philippines hopes to be recognized in the global eSports scene, competent internet connections should be on top of the priority list. Hopefully with the recently signed MoA between PLDT and the DOST for links to PHOpenIX we’re moving closer to resolving this conundrum.
Moving forward…
If Manila Cup 2015 is any indication of what’s to come for the Philippine FGC, then the future is definitely looking bright. Hopefully the first would not be the last. Next year should be bigger, better and far more hype.
I think I speak for everyone here when I say that all championship spots should belong to the Philippines. Manila Cup 2015 was round one for us to show that we are capable of hosting events at an international level. Let’s show them next time that we can beat them at a similar level as well!
To all my fellow local warriors: keep leveling up and stay hungry!
