National Dota 2 Cup: Dota 2’s Version of FIBA World Cup?
ProDota.eu, a Dota 2 sports league, invited 16 countries to play in the first National Dota 2 Cup.
National Dota 2 Cup, much like in FIBA World Cup -only on a smaller scale- will have countries to compete for the grand prize.
According to ProDota.eu, they aim to bring more variety in the Dota 2 scene and plans to bring the tournament into a much bigger stadium.
With National Cup we want to bring something new to the community and we hope everybody will love the event and the idea, so we can make the more seasons with LAN. Our plan is to go through with this event like 2-3 times in a year with LAN all over the world.
FEATURED STORIES
The tournament will have a starting prizepool of $10,000 (P450,000~) plus 10% additional acquired from ticket sales. The group stage will start on September 21-29 while the main event will be on October 3-12.
Unfortunately, the Philippines wasn’t able to make the cut to get an invite but among the invited countries are Ukraine and Russia where they will be represented by some of the top professional players in the scene.
Na’Vi members Alexander “XBOCT” Dashkevich and Gleb “Funnik” Lipatnikov will team up with former team Empire players, Andrey “ALWAYSWANNAFLY” Bondarenko and Ilya “Alohadance” Korobkin. To complete their roster they have Empire’s current mid player, Roman “Resolut1on” Fominok, who will also be Team Ukraine’s captain.
Other professional players participating in the tournament include Sébastien “7ckngMad“ Debs for France. Empire’s Airat “Silent” Gaziev along with another Na’Vi player, Akbar “SoNNeikO” Butaev, will be playing for Russia. For more information about the participating countries visit ProDota.eu
For National Dota 2 Cup to be completely be a Dota 2’s version of FIBA World Cup, it has to be under an international eSports governing body and should be open to countries all over the world.
Similarly, in 2014 the Internatioal eSports Federation (IeSF) ran the first World Championship for Dota 2 that was participated by 14 teams. Team Newbee was China’s representative in the tournament and they won the championship of around $25,000 (P1.1 million~).
IeSF is an organization that aims to have a unified regulation for eSports, an eSports governing body and with the developments of eSports in this age, it is only a matter of time before Dota 2 or any competitive games can have a World Cup Series.
