Mineski Making it Back to the International Scene, Secures a Trip to LA

Mineski will be flying to Los Angeles for The Summit 4 after winning against Fnatic in the finals of the Southeast Asian Qualifiers.

They will fly to Los Angeles to compete with the other international teams for the main event with over $100,000 (P4.6 million). This will be the return of a Philippine team in the International scene after failing to compete in the biggest tournament in Dota 2, The International.

Mineski took a downfall after the match-making issue and roster changes. This year, with their new team, they are clamoring once again into the gates of international tournaments. Their performance in the Frankfurt Majors also secured them a trip to Germany and they competed at the main even of the Nanyang Championships in Singapore.

Even with their promising performance, no one anticipated that they will manage to beat the Malaysian-based team Fnatic, who is also dubbed as the best team in Southeast Asia so far. But Mineski, with their recent accomplishments, is trying to prove the whole word wrong.

The Games

Fnatic took a convincing win in game 1 with an excellent performance of Djardel “DJ” Mampusti’s Queen of Pain and Wai Pern “Net” Lim’s Spirit Breaker. Spirit Breaker helped Queen of Pain secure her lane with a first blood against Shadow Fiend but Mineski didn’t waver, they tried to retaliate and crush Fnatic’s momentum. Mineski tried to contest Roshan during mid game.

Ryan Jay “Jay-Bimbo/raging-_-potato” Qui’s Shadow Fiend snatched the aegis and took the fight. Unfortunately, they weren’t able to achieve the turnaround that they are looking for.

The early stages of Game 2 was again in favor of Fnatic. DJ playing as Queen of Pain once again. But a mishap happened where Queen of Pain was killed by raging-_-potato’s Anti-Mage. A well-farmed Anti-Mage and Ryo “ryOr” Hasegawa’s snowball constantly saved his team and opened a counter during teamfights which lead them to their win.

With the scores tied up, Fnatic took the third game with precision and the same story happened during game 4. Fnatic was winning the early stages until Mineski found an opening to cut their momentum. raging-_-potato’s Templar Assassin got an Ultra Kill during an engagement in top lane which lead to more teamfight wins in favor of Mineski.

Finally, only one game left to decide who’s going to Los Angeles for the main event. It’s raging-_-potato’s Shadow Fiend vs. Dominik “Black^” Reitmeier’s Anti-Mage. In the end raging-_-potato was unstoppable and Mineski closed down the victory.

The Dream:The International 6?

The Philippines failed to compete in this year’s International. Rave, a Korean-based team with Filipino members, was the pinoys hope in making it big in the competitive scene. Unfortunately, they weren’t able to make it and the team eventually disband.

Mineski was also the first Filipino team to make it to The International but it was four years ago. The new Mineski have been practicing a lot and studying their opponents carefully. They took a more measured approach as a team and when facing a different opponent.

With their performance, they might also compete in the other upcoming Dota 2 Majors and who knows, if they continued to flourish as a team they might make a comeback in next year’s The International.
