Well Oiled Evil Geniuses Sweep Fnatic Out Of The Upper Bracket
The second Upper Bracket series of the day feature SEA team Fnatic going up against North American giants Evil Geniuses. A classic match-up of East versus West is one for the books as a place in the Top 6 in Shanghai are up for grabs.
Game 1’s draft started out an interesting one with Fnatic picking up an almost forgotten hero in this patch with Chai Yee “Mushi” Fung on the Leshrac while Evil Geniuses picked up a Mid Nyx Assassin for Syed “Suma1L” Hassan. Evil Geniuses was aggressive early on with Clinton “Fear” Loomis’ Bounty Hunter covering a lot of distance for the American side. Fnatic’s Chen pick for Djardel “DJ” Mampusti just not swinging the early game in their favor as much as they would have liked. Sumail and Fear were just all over the map with their one-two punch invisible combo. Fnatic tried to fight back by grouping up early down the Mid lane but good plays from Sumail and Saahil “Universe” Arora’s Dark Seer just made Fnatic pay. Artour “Arteezy” Babaev’s Sven was getting insanely huge for Fnatic to stop. Evil Geniuses just steamrolled bottom lane after securing a huge gold advantage from the Track kills. 36 minute GG from Fnatic.
Evil Geniuses picked up the Universe Faceless Void while Fnatic gets to pick up the coveted Earth Spirit for DJ. Interestingly EG went for an unconventional position 1 Carry, but still deadly, Hero in the Clinkz for Arteezy. The early game was pretty close with Fear’s Mirana and DJ’s Earth Spirit causing problems for both sides. Pinpoint team fight execution give EG the first big team fight of the game at the Top T1 Tower of the Dire where Fnatic came out a bit lax in trying to take the first objective. The initiation advantage on Sumail’s Batrider and Universe’s Faceless Void is working extremely well for EG as they take more fights in the mid game. The big reversals of Peter “ppd” Dager’s Vengeful Spirit swaps also guarantee EG take minimal lost in the engagements. Fnatic just does not have an answer for the well-oiled EG machine. The last ditch Roshan attempt by Fnatic later on was easily punished by Universe and the rest of his team. EG take the victory at 37 minutes.
EG convincingly secure their Top 6 finish with a 2-0 romp of the SEA side in Shanghai. Fnatic succumb to the dreaded Lower Brackets.
