FaZe Clan to opt out of WESA, may face fines for “breach of contract”
The World eSports Association has just been announced almost a week ago and it has already attracted a great amount of mixed reactions from the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) community, with many personalities weighing in on the matter.
In a report on IGN today, sources close to FaZe Clan, one of the signatories to the World eSports Association (WESA), have mentioned that the organization plans to leave due to allegations of early demands of exclusivity by ESL, as well as a desire to “keep their current representation.”
The report further states that ESL has been allegedly pressuring other teams to do the same, despite the fact that they already “have current agreements with talent agencies for representation.”
If FaZe agreed to ESL’s exclusvity clause, that would mean that they will not be able to participate in other third-party tournaments such as DreamHack, PGL and MLG, among others.
FaZe faces penalties up to $50,000 (P2.34 million) in order to get out of the organization.
The North American entity plans to publicly announce their departure next week. Apart from CS:GO, FaZe also competes in Call of Duty.
