AGES CS:GO 2016: Expendables to Top 8, Mineski Eliminated
Expendables is the lone Filipino team left in the ASEAN Games for eSports (AGES) Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) category after a bloody day of matches including the elimination of another Filipino team, Mineski after facing stiff opposition.
Earlier in the day, Mineski beaten Malaysian squad NAGA with a scoreline of 16-10.
Meanwhile, Expendables massacred GKP, a CS:GO squad for a Malaysia-based university, with a scoreline of 16-4.
Going into the second round of the upper bracket, Mineski faced Vietnamese team THREATS, while Expendables went up against Thailand-based squad Signature.Trust.
THREATS and Signature.Trust are considered to be among Southeast Asia’s best Counter-Strike teams. In addition, it was imperative for both Filipino teams to win their matches against these teams in order to get a share of the RM 320,000 (P3.66 million) prize pool for securing at least the top eight spot.
At the end of this round, Expendables loses against the Thai side, 10-16, while Mineski falls short as the Vietnamese beats them with a score of 14-16.
With these both Filipino teams drop to the lower bracket of the tournament.
Expendables had to go up against CODO, another Malaysian university squad. And Mineski CS:GO went up against another top-tier Vietnamese side in the form of Hanoi Vortex.
This time around, Expendables sweeps the Malaysians 16-0.
Mineski was eliminated in the tournament as they succumbed to Hanoi Vortex, 12-16.
With these results, Expendables get into the prize pool and into the top eight, while Mineski is already out of the first-ever AGES CS:GO 2016 tournament.
