Manila Majors Groups Revealed
With only five days to go before the group stages of the Manila Major, Valve has released the group stage brackets featuring some truly interesting match-ups.
The Manila Major will feature a GSL-format group stage with four teams per group. The two teams with the best record advancing to the upper bracket of the main event on June 7. The lower two teams will be relegated to the knock-out brackets.
Here are the brackets for the group stages. The group stages will be played on June 3-4, via online play:
Group A: OG, Team Empire, Newbee, Complexity
Group B: Wings, Digital Chaos, Team Secret, Na’Vi
Group C: Team Liquid, The Alliance, Vici Reborn, Fnatic
Group D: Evil Geniuses, Mineski, MVP Phoenix, LGD Gaming
Of note are groups A and B, featuring some match-ups that have gathered steam in the past few months.
OG cut Newbee’s record for longest match-streak since The Alliance barely a few weeks ago at the EPICENTER Moscow tournament. They are grouped with perennial tournament contenders Complexity and Team Empire, whose new line-up is showing promise in European online qualifiers, defeating CIS region teams with frequency.
Group B is shaping up to be a grudge match between Digital Chaos and Team Secret. Prior to the roster lock for the Manila Major, Team Secret’s midlaner Aliwi “w33” Omar was removed from the Shanghai Major winning line-up with only a few days left to transfer to another stable team. He was picked up by Digital Chaos at the eleventh hour. The Manila Major will be the first time both teams will meet each other in an official tournament.
