Memphies Grizzlies Co-Owner Increases Stake in Immortals eSports Team

It’s looking like the NBA is leading the charge for traditional sports to enter the eSports space.

Steve Kaplan, co-owner and Vice Chairman of the Memphis Grizzlies NBA team, has reportedly increased his stake in the League of Legends’ LCS team, Immortals according to a report by Venture Beat’s Dean Takahashi.

Kaplan is the third NBA team owner this week to buy-in or increase their involvement into the eSports space, with the Philadelphia 76ers buying out the Dignitas eSports team and aXiomatic (lead by Golden State Warriors owner Peter Guber and Washington Wizards owner Ted Leonsis) buying a controlling share of Team Liquid.

Kaplan will now join the Immortal’s company board as a major shareholder, according to Peter Levin, president of Lion’s Gate interactive Ventures and Games. Levin is also a part owner of the Immortals company.

Immortals currently field teams and players in the following competitive titles: League of Legends, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Overwatch and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.
