Misfits win the ELEAGUE Overwatch Open Grand Finals Against EnVyUs
The Overwatch titles will remain in Europe today, as Misfits defeats EnVyUs to win the first ELEAGUE Overwatch Open Grand Finals in a 3-1 affair.
European regional champion Misfits completed their Cinderella-story run today as they defeated the dominating EnVyUs in impressive fashion, putting away the North American squad in a back and forth match on LiJiang Tower.
In their games, the Misfits team were buoyed by the impressive support play of Hidan on Zenyatta and Zebbosai on his Lucio, keeping the team alive and healthy to weather the assault from EnVyUs.
The sustain from the Misfits teams eventually allowed offensive players Soon and Kryw to mount the firepower needed to put away EnVyUs and claim victory for Europe.
For their win, Misfits will take the lion’s share of the $300,000 prize pool, making ELEAGUE’s Overwatch Open the single largest Overwatch competition to date.
Misfits originally secured the seed as the best team in Europe after a grueling sortie through the lower bracket. Misfits, originally plagued with roster problems before the Open began were seen as the ultimate underdogs.
In the finals, Misfits would face Rogue, the champions of the Overwatch Atlantic Showdown and the team that broke EnVyUs’ historic 57-match win-streak.
For North America, top-ranked worldwide team EnVyUs stomped through the group stages with dominating wins over Team Liquid and Splyce. In the end, they secured the top spot for NA with 3-1 whitewashes over Cloud 9 and Fnatic.
