Dota 2’s Spring Major to be Held on April 2017; The International 7 in August
In an announcement made earlier today, Valve has revealed that the Spring Major Main Event will take place from April 20-23, 2017. Additionally, The International 2017 Main Event will be held in the first half of August.
One of the big reveals in the announcement includes updates on the regional qualifiers for Americas and Europe. Valve will be dividing America into the North and South American qualifiers. The same will be done for Europe, dividing it into a Europe and CIS qualifiers.
Previously, CIS teams all competed in the Europe qualifiers, producing a gauntlet of many Tier 1 and Tier 2 teams competing in both the open and regional legs.
This has led teams from Europe to instead compete in the Americas qualifiers, citing easier competition.
Valve has not yet revealed the venue for the Spring Major. The Spring Major Open Qualifiers will run from March 6-9, followed by the Regional Qualifiers on March 10-13. The International 2017 Open Qualifiers will be held from June 22-25, with the Regional Qualifiers taking place from June 26-29.
