FoReV to Start for MVP.Phoenix at Boston; ReiseN Benched
Lee “FoReV” Sang-don will be starting for MVP.Phoenix at the Boston Major, replacing Lee “ReiseN” Jun-yeong, according to Valve’s Majors Registration website.
The offlaner, who served a short stint with Team Secret after The International 6, will be returning to the Korean squad that he helped get to The International 5 and 6 and compete in the Manila and Shanghai Majors.
Thanks to Valve’s new substitution rule, FoReV can start for the team despite playing with Team Secret and competing in the European qualifiers.
This marks the latest in teams upgrading their rosters post-qualifier period — a departure from the usage of the substition rule Valve has enforced since 2014. The trend was started when Execration announced that substitute player Adam “343” Shah will be replacing Rafael “Rapy” Sicat Palo for the Boston Major.
Since then Complexity and MVP.Phoenix have outright improved their rosters in time for the Major, while Chinese squads such as Invictus.Vitaliy and LGD.FY have registered players like Xu “BurNIng” Zhilei as substitutes in the event that one of their players cannot secure a visa before the event.
