Getting to Know SEA Games AoV Captain Gambit
As the esports medal events of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games approaches, we took a moment to interview the Philippine representatives for the different esports titles in the competition. For the first of our getting to know series, we talked to the Sibol Arena of Valor Team Captain Kevin “Gambit” Dizon of Liyab.
1. How did you get into gaming and the game you’re repping?
I first got into gaming in general when I was young and my mother would bring my games from Japan. When I became a teenager, and in the early seasons of League of Legends, I realized I wanted to join competitions. I had a team back then, called “Soup A Star,” and we joined different tournaments. However, when I had my son, I had to stop to work. When Arena of Valor came out, I played it out of curiousity and noticed that I could quickly climb up the ranks. When the first community tournaments came out, I joined in together with my friends who I met through AOV as well – Rubixx and 1717.
2. How does it feel to represent the Philippines in the SEA Games?
It feels surreal. I also feel very proud and hope that more people will be recognizing esports not just in the Philippines but in Southeast Asia.
3. What are the challenges you think you’ll face?
With our game, Arena of Valor, there are different servers where other countries are from and each server as a different skill level. We hope that we can overcome these hurdles through our training and hardwork during the SEA Games.

4. How do you think you’ll do?
I think we can go toe-to-toe with the other teams. We will do our best to give them good games and strive our very best to win for the Philippines.
5. Any shoutouts you’d like to extend?
Shoutout to my partner, Anne, and to my children as well! Thank you also to Globe and Mineski for always supporting us and thank you to the management of Liyab Esports for always having our backs. To the Filipinos, we will do our best! Thanks!
