Still On Top, Back On Top, Returning To The Top

After having their undefeated streak broken, Blacklist International continue their dominant ways by winning two straight games last week. One against Execration and one this week against Group B’s 2nd seed, Omega Esports. Their final game will see them go up against 3rd seed Nexplay Esports.

Aura PH, the league’s only 2-time champions, return to the limelight to reclaim their titles as the country’s best, after a disappointing finish last season. With two games left in the season for them, we will see if the spark will return to ignite a flame.

Reigning champions BREN Esports, on the other hand, have found a way to find their footing after a rocky start to the season. Despite being third seed in Group A, they found big wins against the strong newcomer Work Auster Force, as well as Group B’s dominant Blacklist International. With a sure spot in the playoffs, we’ll see if they can hold their motto true, of ‘BREN lang malakas.’

Something To Prove

Season 7 definitely had lots of exciting matchups, and Playoffs will definitely take things to 11, with teams fired up to prove their worth.

Freshman team Work Auster Force wowed in the Qualifiers, had an impressive start to the season (even sitting at 1st seed for a few weeks), and sit just behind Aura PH in the standings. With their playoffs ticket punched, fans are sure to have a great time supporting this team in this possible MPL Cinderella run.

Speaking of fan-favorites, Nexplay Esports sit in the middle of an incredibly competitive group, right between Omega Esports and Execration, with the final games next week having bearings on playoff seeding. It’s now or never for the star-studded team, who’s ready to take on any challenge, all while entertaining the viewers. (The top 5 most-viewed MPL-PH S7 games are all Nexplay games, with the top two being against Execration at 647k and 596k peak concurrent viewers.)

For Onic PH, after multiple seasons of coming so close to the coveted championship, their rebuilt and rejuvenated squad look to bring back the Onic Magic that gave them the power to fight, and astonished hundreds of thousands of fans.

They say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks, but these hounds are still hungry as ever for the title. Being the only other team besides BREN to participate in every season of the MPL, veteran squad Execration prove that they still have tricks up their sleeve to contend with the young guns.

After a 2nd place finish last season and showing that they can go toe-to-toe with the big guns at the M2 World Championships, Smart Omega, equipped with experience and talent in every position, are ready to make their return to the Final Stage.

Laus Playbook Esports, one of the two new teams to the league, still have a chance to pull from the nosedive and soar right into the playoffs.

Though things look bleak now for Cignal Ultra, they’ll have a chance to fight for their spot and prove themselves again in next season’s Qualifiers.
