Execration Eliminate Onic, Blacklist deny Bren Reverse Sweep In MPL Playoffs Day 2
Playoffs action continued in the MPL-PH as both series went all five games. Execration and Onic traded blows with Exe eventually coming out on top, and Blacklist International fight off a Bren Esports comeback attempt.
Battle of the Vets
A bloody Game 1 set the tone for the series, with a 17-13 kill score in favor of Execration, who nabbed the win.
The two teams would eventually trade wins, neither team wanting to give up the advantage.
Standout performances include Hate’s Hayabusa going 6/1/4 in an Onic Game 2 victory, Chaknu’s Khufra setting up key fights in Game 3 racking up a game-high seven assists, and Jay picking up MVP in Game 4 for Onic with his 1/1/10 Gloo performance.
In the decisive Game 5, Execration would prove to be the better team. Renzio, Kielvj, and Kelra would go deathless in the decider, with Kelra and E2MAX popping off for a game-high four kills each.
Execration move on to the next round, where they will be facing Omega Esports. Onic PH are eliminated from the playoffs.
Vengeance Will Be Mine
Blacklist set out to take revenge on World Champions Bren Esports, who handed them their only loss in the regular season.
Blacklist handily took the opening, going 18-3 in a 12:53-long Game 1. Game 2 was a lot closer, with a 19-13 scoreline and a crucial fight in the Lord pit to secure the win for the Tier One team.
Backs against the wall, Bren had to step up, and step up they did. A massive 8/0/3 Lancelot by Karltzy shattered Blacklist’s momentum. With the support from Pheww’s Luo Yi (2/2/7) and Lusty’s Mathilda (3/0/11), the additional firepower from Ribo’s Lunox (4/0/4), and Flaptzy’s monster Barats (2/0/9), the whole roster played their part in the W. The 19-2 win was crucial for Bren’s morale.
Game 4 was just as dominant for the defending champions. Finishing the game in less than 11 and a half minutes with as 12-2 kill score, Bren tied up the series 2-2 and brought a second Game 5 for the day.
The second Game 5 of the day was a showcase of Blacklist’s specialty. Dubbed as ‘UBE’ or ‘Ultimate Bonding Experience,’ Blacklist’s group-up-and-snowball playstyle worked wonders. An average 71.25 Kill Participation for the roster proved how much they got done together as a team. With superior objective control and smart fight choices, Blacklist denied Bren’s reverse sweep attempt and took the series 3-2.
Blacklist International move on to the next round, where they will be facing Aura PH in the Upper Bracket Finals. Bren Esports drop to the Lower Bracket to face Work Auster Force.
