The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) included esports as an official medal sport at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China in September 2022.

In a press release by the OCA, they announced the list of esports titles that would debut as an official medal sport at the 19th Asian Games.

The featured titles include:

  • Arena of Valor Asian Games Version
  • Dota 2
  • Dream Three Kingdoms 2
  • EA SPORTS FIFA branded soccer games
  • HearthStone
  • League of Legends
  • PUBG Mobile Asian Games Version
  • Street Fighter V

while the two demonstration events are:

Mr. Husain Al-Musallam, the Director-General of the OCA, stated that “I believe we have ticked all the right boxes ensuring a high level of competition which promises great viewing for enthusiasts and casuals alike.”

The Asian Electronic Sports Federation has been appointed Technical Delegate of the esports competition at the 19th Asian Games by the OCA. They will also be in charge of the qualifying competition and for the operation and management of the esports competition in Hangzhou.

Back in 2018, esports was part of the 18th Asian Games in Indonesia as a demonstration sport, which meant that the medals gained there weren’t part of the official medal tally for each country.
