Smart Omega Upsets ECHO in MPL-PH Season 9 Playoffs Opener
Smart Omega managed to upset ECHO via a 3-0 sweep in the opening series of the MPL-PH Season 9 Playoffs.
Game 1 ended with Omega outlasting ECHO’s early game draft composition. Speaking of drafts, the game was initially delayed for a bit as we almost saw a spicy Miya pick at the hands of Grant Duane “Kelra” Pillas. However, the game went to a redraft which saw Kelra pick Wanwan instead. This decision paid dividends as he went on to become the Game 1 MVP with a 7/4/4 KDA.
On the other hand, Game 2 became a back-and-forth fiasco as the momentum swayed for both teams. In the end, Omega managed to close the second game in approximately 25 minutes of intense, sweaty gameplay. After the game, Kelra was asked what he thought about his performance in the series so far, to which he responded with “Sakto lang [it’s alright].”
With series momentum on their side, Smart Omega finished ECHO’s Playoffs dream in Game 3. The Comeback Kings managed to outlast the superstar-laden ECHO as the match had multiple Lord takes with Omega taking the last one to secure the dub. Renz “Renzio” Errol Salonga Cadua became the game MVP as he finished with a 10/2/5 KDA with Dyrroth.
Smart Omega almost failed to make the Playoffs this season as they finished sixth in the overall rankings in the group stage. As such, Patrick James “E2MAX” Caidic revealed in a post-match conference that they went into the series with the same mindset from the previous seasons.
“Yung mentality namin same parin [with] the past seasons [Our mentality was just the same with the past seasons],” E2MAX stated. “Sobrang ready kami. [Nagbuhos] kami ng pagod [at] puyat. [We were super ready. We sacrificed being tired and sleepless].”
Smart Omega will be facing TNC, a team they never defeated once in the regular season, as their next match-up in the Playoffs. Meanwhile, ECHO’s journey ended with this preliminary series as they were the first team to be eliminated in the MPL-PH Season 9 Playoffs.
