First Batch of Playoffs Teams are Here – AcadArena Alliance Games
The first batch of playoff teams in VALORANT, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB), Call of Duty: Mobile (CODM), League of Legends (PC), and Wild Rift in the AcadArena Alliance Games were finally decided last weekend.
VALORANT
For the first matchup, the battle between the undefeated teams in Group A took place as ADMU’s LG Terra took on CIT-U’s Wildcats Esports League. The perpetual runner-ups of AcadArena VALORANT did not falter against the Cebuano dark horses (or should we say cats?) as they swiftly — and easily — dispatched them in the first series of the day. Both of the games ended in a similar fashion, with a score of 13-4 on Haven and Split, as the distinguished LG dominance was put on display.
Next up, the match between USC’s Warrior’s Arena’s Mustang Warriors and HAU’s Valiant Esports Club went the distance with the Cebuano crowd favorites running triumphant 2-1. HAU’s valiant efforts in Game 1 on Icebox gave them the edge to outscore the Mustangs 13-9. The Mustangs, however, decided to rev up their engines to speedrun HAU on Haven 13-3. With series momentum on USC’s side, they capped it off 13-7 on Bind with conviction.
Defending champions DLSU Viridis Arcus (VA) simply did not break a sweat when they defeated the MCL Warlocks. VA looked like they were just playing around on Bind as they put on a show with their out-of-their-mind decision-making playstyle. For the second game, VA put another show of dominance as they finished the series on Ascent 13-6.
In the off-stream matchup, MSU-IIT MTE Excalibur defeated the MU-M MGS Clubs 2-0 to get into the playoffs.
Here are some underrated players that popped off over the weekend and should be given some attention:
- LG’s Carlos “tinyo” Tinio’s clutch plays on Sova and Sage on multiple rounds allowed LG to comfortably rotate and retake sites.
- USC’s Martin “Tomo” Pastor provided much-needed smoke and utility coverage while King Clarence “kaiju” Toston on Reyna was a beast that cannot be contained on Haven.
- DLSU’s two new golden gears in Aaron “Fission” Sablay and Derrick “Realist” Ong proved themselves to be just as capable as the rest of the Viridis Arcus squad.
Mobile Legends: Bang Bang
Mobile Legends action kicked off with OLFU Esports sweeping XU’s XCEED by outsmarting their opponents through their “big brain”, high-risk-high reward drafting mentality. In Game 1, they dazzled XCEED with a curious pairing of Cecilion and Alice, which was then accompanied by three tanks in Grock, Akai, and Franco. Similar to their first game’s draft, OLFU’s Game 2 draft retained a multi-tank composition with Grock, Akai, Balmond, and Masha with a perplexing Lunox pick which all went well for them in a 20-minute victory.
Yet another sweep happened in the second matchup of the day as UB’s Brahmans defeated HCA’s PGDN7. The Brahmans overturned their early game deficit for a 14-minute comeback victory on Game 1 while their second game strategy was reminiscent of Onic PH’s banana split pushing which ultimately gave them the game and series victory.
Lastly, UST’s Teletigers proved to be the bigger, more dominant wild feline as they convincingly crushed USJR’s Jaguar Esports. Their Game 1 ended pretty swiftly, with Armen “Armen” Chung’s Beatrix getting a Savage on the final siege. The match ended after the Teletigers outlasted the Jaguars in a scrappy all-out brawl in Game 2.
Here’s a rundown of a few eye-catching players:
- OLFU’s Ron Ventura “bHoxz_R0n15” Llanto surprised everyone with the Alice and Lunox pick in their match against XU.
- Brahman’s Joshua “oddik” Geroleo showcased his mastery over the elements as his Vale blew out his opponents while his Kadita went in and out just like the tides.
- UST’s Wilfredo Pico “Daisey Gorgeous” Jr. on Kagura was too slick for the Jaguars to catch as he outmaneuvered them for easy assassinations.
Call of Duty: Mobile
The first match of the day saw tournament favorites Viridus Arcus of DLSU dominate SAGE Ultimate of University of San Agustin – Iloilo 3-0 by winning 150-17 in Hardpoint at Standoff, 6-1 in Search and Destroy at Firing Range, and 150-125 in Domination at Standoff. The vaunted roster is led by standouts from top CODM organizations: VVV Esports’ Marthur James “Mjay” Barongan and Tyrant Esports’ Jerico “YungJ” Vibora. With the win, Viridus Arcus become the first team to qualify for the playoffs after finishing atop Group A.
The second match displayed a completely opposite situation from the first match as ADMU’s LG Altair and XU’s XCEED Crusaders went down to the wire, with the former eventually prevailing 3-2. LG and XCEED took turns in winning games; 150-147 in Summit Hardpoint game 1 (LG), 5-6 in Raid Search and Destroy game 2 (XCEED), 144-141 in Firing Range Domination game 3 (LG), 113-150 in Standoff Hardpoint (XCEED) and 6-0 in Summit Search and Destroy. LG Altair will continue their run into the playoffs as they become the first team to qualify from Group B.
In the third and final series, MCL’s Malayan Warlocks shrugged off an early loss against FEU’s FIT Dasig in the first game to win 3-1. After losing in Hardpoint at Takeoff 150-84, the Warlocks put their heads down and won three straight games in Search and Destroy at Standoff 6-5, Domination at Summit 150-109, and Hardpoint at Summit 150-122. The result gave them Group D’s top seed and a slot in the playoffs.
LG Altair’s AJ “Banana” Fajardo of ADMU claimed the player of the week for his exceptional performance against XU’s XCEED Crusaders this weekend, clutching up and securing the 3-2 victory for his team.
