ILO Esports Spearheads E-Palarong Pambansa With National Youth Commission
ILO Esports is spearheading E-Palarong Pambansa, a National Youth Commission-backed multi-esports tournament circuit that aims to create new opportunities for Filipino youth in esports.
Modeled after the already existing Palarong Pambansa, E-Palarong Pambansa aims to promote esports to the youth as a ‘supplementary part of holistic development’ that would foster self-discipline, teamwork, and competitive excellence. The idea was originally pitched to long-time esports advocate and former senator Bam Aquino’s office and was later proposed to the National Youth Commission and endorsed by its chairman and CEO Ronald Gian Carlo Cardema.
“E-Palarong Pambansa was created because, even though the Philippines has been doing well in the esports scene worldwide, the majority of opportunities for esports enthusiasts are limited to those in the National Capital Region,” stated ILO Esports founder Jamar Montehermoso in our inquiry.
E-Palarong Pambansa will feature multiple qualifiers and regional group stages (North Luzon, South Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao), ultimately capping off at the Iloilo Convention Center in Iloilo City for the grand finals on July 22-23, 2023. The event aims to involve the Sangguniang Kabataan Federations of 148 Cities and 1,486 Municipalities across the country.
The event will feature a total of six games, three handhelds, two PC, and a Web3 game, which will be determined by two polls prior to the event’s start.
“This way, we can ensure that we are featuring games that are in demand and popular among the Esports community,” Jamar revealed.
After the games were determined, each city and municipality shall then appoint an esports coordinator who will in turn appoint managers to their respective teams. The qualifications for E-Palarong Pambansa are as follows:
- Participants must be between the ages of 12 and 30 years old.
- Participants must be residents of the city or municipality where they will represent in the E-Palarong Pambansa.
- Participants in the E-Palarong Pambansa should not be playing professionally. This means that participants who are currently playing in a professional league or are receiving compensation for their athletic skills are not eligible to join the event.
E-Palarong Pambansa will launch on March 27, 2023. For more information on it, you can reach out to Jamar Montehermoso through ILO Esports.
