It was a tough matchup for Team Secret as they fought against the combined might of international winners in NAVI’s new roster.
Currently, NAVI boasts the former FunPlus Phoenix quartet of Kyrylo “ANGE1” Karasov, Andrey “Shao” Kiprsky, Pontus “Zyppan” Eek, Dmitry “SUYGETSU” Ilyushin, and former Champions 2021 winner Mehmet Yağız “cNed” İpek.
Team Secret first lost in their map pick Icebox 13-8.
It started promisingly well as the team took the first four rounds but eventually ended the first half in a 6-6 tie. They had trouble with CNed’s signature Jett and ANGE1’s Cypher who combined for twenty-one kills prior to halftime.
Despite Jessie “JessieVash” Cuyco’s fifteen kills in the second half, Team Secret ultimately lost Game 1 to NAVI after a heartbreaking seven-round losing streak ended the game.
Unfortunately, Team Secret could not shake off their loss in the first game and lost Game 2 on Pearl 13-4. They were simply outfragged by NAVI, with Shao, CNed, and ANGE1 all getting double-digit kills as defenders in the first half alone.
Team Secret exited São Paulo, Brazil in 9th–16th place after defeating only Team Liquid 2-0 last week. Their departure from VCT LOCK//IN also marks the end of all the Pacific teams’ runs in the Omega Bracket.Subscribe to INQUIRER PLUS to get access to The Philippine Daily Inquirer & other 70+ titles, share up to 5 gadgets, listen to the news, download as early as 4am & share articles on social media.
