Mineski Pro Gaming League Is Back With A New Format
Mineski, one of the largest gaming organizations in the Philippines, just revealed the details for the latest installment of the Mineski Pro Gaming League (MPGL). Each leg of the league will feature a huge prize pool of P164,000 and will be divided into three phases.
First, there will be a total of five LAN qualifiers to be held at different Mineski cybercafes across the country. In addition, there will be an online qualifier to give teams from different parts of the country a shot in the MPGL. The Class A and Class S phases will be held simultaneously with the qualifiers and each qualifier winner will face the bottom two teams from the Class A portion of the leg in order to determine the two teams who will play in the next leg.
The Class A tournament will feature eight teams, divided into two groups; the winner of Group A will face-off against the winner of Group B to determine who will face the last seed from Class S in the playoffs.
The Class S tournament will first feature a group stage format. Once the final placings are determined, the teams will be seeded accordingly in a stepladder format, starting with the winner of Class A fighting against the 4th placer of the Class S group stage, going all the way to the finals where the first seed of the Class S group awaits.
New features in this year’s MPGL tournament include a “win-for-cash” system where teams can gain money depending on their performance in a best-of-three series. This seems to be intended to give the teams extra motivation to win their matches. Also, there are prizes even at the qualifier phase, which ensures maximum participation by the teams.
Most importantly, the format of each phase of the league has been tweaked in order to make sure that the teams who are consistent and determined are rewarded appropriately.
As expected, all of the top Dota 2 teams in the country such as Arcanys, Execration and Mineski-Dota have been seeded into either Class A or Class S.
Here are the prize pools for each phase:

1st place: P6,000
