Last Saturday, Imperium Video Game Bar and Lounge held its second NintenDay, a monthly circuit for Super Smash Brothers 4 and Pokemon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire. The Smash tournament in particular was plagued with update problems at the start, but was able to recover just in time.

After the first five matches were held, it was discovered by one of the players that two out of the three Wii U setups were using the outdated version of Smash 4. Patches are a serious issue in high-level competition, as small improvements and downgrades to certain characters could completely change the metagame. Having different versions of the game would compromise the tournament if it continued this way, so it was decided that the entire bracket was to be reset, allowing the Imperium staff to update the setups first.

This month, out of 26 players who joined, it was Don Yves “DYG” Giron from the South who took home the title. His impressive Mario play dominated the competition, besting runner-up Mikel “Godz” Godinez in stellar fashion.
