The International (TI) 5, Dota 2’s grandest tournament, is currently unveiling the ten teams that will be competing for this year’s event.

As of 10:30, Philippine Standard Time (PHST), six of the 10 invited teams have announced.

Perennial favorites Vici Gaming from China and Evil Geniuses from America were first to be announced, followed by former TI2 champions Invictus Gaming (iG) from China and all-star team Team Secret from Europe.

Rounding out the invitations as 10:30 AM were LGD Gaming, led by TI4 champion Zhang “xiao8” Ning and European favorites, Cloud 9, led by Jacky “EternalEnvy” Mao.

As of 10:45 PHST Team Empire from Russia, joins the invited cast of 10.

As of 11:15 PHST, TI4 champions Newbee and Russian squad Virtus Pro join the list of invited teams.

As of 11:30 PHST, Team Malaysia is the last team to join the nine other teams for this year’s TI.

Despite logging an impressive run at the Dota 2 Asian Championships where they finished 5th, Philippine team Rave failed to secure an invite to the main event.

Regional Qualifiers

In total, some 16 teams from around the world will be making their way  to Seattle, Washington from Monday, Aug. 3 through Saturday, Aug 8.

At least four other teams will join the 10 invited after winning their respective qualifiers from the four major regions: China, Southeast Asia, Americas and Europe.

Announcements for the teams eligible to join the Regional Qualifier tournaments will be coming out later today, May 7, 2015.

Open Tournament

For the first time in the tournament’s five-year history, the 10th slot for each Regional Qualifier will be decided via an open tournament where any team can join.

The International is Dota 2’s largest tournament. The event is hosted by Valve Software, the developer and publisher for Dota 2. Last year’s tournament, The International 4, broke records as the tournament with the highest ever prize pool for a videogame tournament, at $10.9 million.
