Redemption and Answers from Day 3 of The International’s Main Event
Only eight teams survive after a grueling Day 3 of The International. While yesterday was definitely about comebacks and surprises, Day 3 is about making a point. Do all the teams that currently remain deserve to be here? That’s what everyone wants to be answered.
Lower Bracket
Seasoned VP goes up against upstarts Complexity
Complexity took the first game after Virtus Pro seemed to be very much in control. The American team was looking to seize momentum in the series but the experienced Virtus Pro buckled down and won the succeeding games. Complexity Gaming wasn’t exactly favored to go far in this tournament but walking away with a little over $200,000 isn’t too shabby.
Secret Redemption
Undoubtedly, one of the most anticipated of the day after Team Secret was relegated to the lower bracket by EHOME. Artour “Arteezy” Babaev and company had their work cut out for them against Xu “BurNIng” Zhilei and the rest of Invictus Gaming. The series went the distance going the full length of 3 games. It was a close battle between Arteezy’s Luna and BurNIng’s Shadow Fiend but the fights were simply going Team Secret’s way. The legendary BurNIng, one of the best ever Chinese carries in the game, is sent out of The International by none other than the BabyRage himself.
Upper Bracket
China’s Finest
CDEC certainly wasn’t expected to surprise the most in-form Chinese team, LGD Gaming, at The International. CDEC worked their asses off to get this far making their way from the Wildcards and all. LGD, on the other hand, had the best performance overall in the Group Stages. But lo and behold behind the heroics of Chen “Xz” Zezhi and Sun ”Agressif” Zheng, CDEC outplayed LGD at almost every moment. Well played, CDEC.
Home Court Advantage Secured
The only remaining NA team in The International was Evil Geniuses. The team had a whole nation rooting for them on home soil. The pressure was definitely on them. EHOME was on a high after dismantling crowd darling Team Secret yesterday. EHOME’s momentum carried over from yesterday with Chen “Cty” Tianyu leading the charge as they took Game 1. Evil Geniuses then struck back in emphatic fashion with a surprise Techies pick for Kurtis “Aui_2000” Ling which absolutely disoriented EHOME. Stellar play from Syed “Suma1L” Hassan’s Windranger secured Game 3.
In just a few days, we are bout to crown ourselves new TI champions. The sweet smell of $6,000,000 is enticing for the remaining teams as of this moment. Going into tomorrow, these are how the brackets look like.
