The Summit 2 Day 3 (Now with 100% More Pictures)
After two days of group stage matches, The Summit 2 entered the single elimination playoffs with best-of-five matches. The top two teams from the group stage, Team Secret and Cloud 9 (C9), advanced to the semi-finals of the bracket where they waited for the winners of the quarterfinals. Let’s take a look at how the matches turned out.
Series 1: Evil Geniuses vs. Not Today
The first of two quarterfinal matches pit underdog Not Today (NoT) from South America against one of the strongest favorites, the North American team Evil Geniuses (EG). Despite being last year’s champion, EG struggled in the group stages and at one point even shared the bottom spot with NoT. The underdogs weren’t going down without a fight, but went down nonetheless.
EG will go on to face C9 in the semi-finals.
Series 2: Vici Gaming vs. Team Tinker
Unlike the previous series, the match between Vici Gaming (VG) and Team Tinker wasn’t as one-sided. The sole Asian representative, VG, placed fourth in the group stage after losing to Team Secret and EG. Team Tinker, on the other hand, came into the tournament as a replacement for First Departure after the team failed to secure permissions from both school and National Service duties, respectively.
Team Tinker approached their games with early game aggression and flashy plays but in the end, the combination of Black’s Terrorblade and the roaming support duo from VG put Tinker away.
VG will go on to face Team Secret in the semi-finals.
