Following Valve’s announcement of an improved Dota 2 client that will take advantage of the new Source 2 engine, the gaming company released the second tranche of updates that players can expect once Dota 2 Reborn is released for public testing.

As promised, Dota 2 Reborn will support Custom Matches directly into the game client, allowing users to enjoy alternative modes to enjoying the massively popular Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) game, along with in-set tools to help creative users create their own custom game modes.

In a statement on the Dota 2 blog, the development team reiterated that support for custom games and game makers are a proud tradition in Dota 2:

Custom Games are new experiences that are created by the community, and playable within Dota 2. These games can be anything from a grand brawl between ten Invokers, to a story-driven dungeon adventure, to something creative that no one has seen before. For us, Custom Games represent a continuation of the tradition that gave birth to Dota, Team Fortress and Counter-Strike. We’d like to build an ecosystem where you can experience something new every time you launch Dota 2.

New features include an improved hub to find popular Custom Games as played by the community, a game lobby reminiscent of other Valve game such as CounterStrike and Team Fortress, and a powerful new map creation tool.

With this announcement, Valve reaffirms their strategy for longevity in the business: let the community evolve their creations and give it a more organic, breath of fresh air.

Once Dota 2 Reborn hits, players will be able to enjoy classic custom games such as Pudge Wars and Shadow Fiend Wars. The Dota 2 team has teased a new custom game mode, designed in-house, called Overthrow.

The final tranche of updates, along with details about its release and the much awaited Source 2 news will be coming out this week.
