Two Former Dota 2 Champions Eliminated, Still Win P2M
Two former The International (TI), the most prestige Dota 2 championships in the world, champions lost their chance to regain the Aegis of the Immortal (trophy) and take home at least P300 million ($6.5 million~) after getting eliminated from the tournament.
Ukrainian team Natus Vincere (Na’Vi), TI1 champion and defending champion, Chinese squad Newbee will go home with at least P2.4 million prize money after placing 13th-16th this year.
Na’Vi was eliminated from the tournament by last year’s first-runner up China-based Vici Gaming (VG) in a best-of-one series in the losers bracket. While Newbee suffered a hard loss after a back and forth game against Korean team MVP.Phoenix.

Winners from the first stage of the lower bracket will be facing the teams who lost in the upper bracket. MVP.Phoenix will be battling against Russian team Team Empire while VG will be facing American squad Cloud 9.
The International (TI) is the crème de la crème of Dota 2 and for four years it breeds champios after champion. Na’Vi prospered in the Dota 2 scene after their unstoppable run in TI1. Na’Vi has been in the TI grand finals thrice. They didn’t make it to be the first two-time TI champion after losing against China-based Invictus Gaming and Swedish team Team Alliance in 2012 and 2013 respectively.
Newbee, who almost got eliminated from TI4, found their footing and overcame all the struggle last year, earning at least $5 million.
