Gamecon 2017, held at the Megatrade Hall of SM Megamall last July 7 – 9, was a gathering for all gamers: table tops, boards, trading cards, consoles, and PCs.
The three-day event started with a seminar featuring esteemed game developers and designers in the country: Alvin Juban, JD Abenaza, Mars Balicasan, Elendil Cañete, among others; who tackled topics such as the state of game development in the Philippines, and how to land a career in game development.
There were workshops that showcased the budding talent of participants to make their own game, from developing a concept into a successful project, to making the character designs.
Exhibitors and game tournaments were held throughout the event. Participants registered for X-Wing, and the highly popular 3-on-3 mobile MOBA game, Mobile Legends. There were also casual games for the other forms of games.
Days 2 and 3 also featured solo and group cosplay competitions which showcased costume design made by amateurs.
Cosplay legend and streamer Ashley Gosiengfiao graced the event on the third day. She was also one of three judges of the group cosplay competition, and awarded the DOTA 2 group with the trophy.
Ms. Gosiengfiao also expressed her support for aspiring cosplayers and other gamers during the event.
