The Start of a Long Battle: The Philippines’ First Tekken 7 Tournament
After three months since Tekken 7 first reached the Philippines, the local arcade scene is finally ready for its first competition. Bryan Bjorn “Happyman” Borres of team T’recs has organized the first Tekken 7 tournament in the country in hopes of crowning the top player in the Philippine Tekken scene before Tekken 7: Fated Retribution comes out.
The 32-man, single elimination tournament will be held at Timezone SM Megamall on Jan. 16, 2016 3 p.m. The total pot of P3,200 will be split between the top 3 players of the tournament with the second runner-up getting P500 in cash with P120 in Timezone credits, first runner-up getting P900 in cash with P290 in Timezone credits, and the champion winning P1,000 in cash, P700 in Timezone credits, a special prize from Playbook Video Game Lounge and Bookshop and a 20th Anniversary Edition Bandai Namco jacket.
Many of the top arcade players in the local Tekken scene have joined the tournament including the Tekken Tag Tournament 2 champions Maru Sy who won during eSports Gaming Summit 2015 and Andreij “Doujin” Albar who won during the Pinoy Gaming Festival 2015, and a more from the top teams in the country so there is no doubt that the competition will be intense.
