European Dota 2 Squad Team Secret Takes Home Championship and $1.1 Million in Shanghai, China

Team Secret bested fellow European team Team Liquid, in an enthralling Best-of-5 series that left many fans watching over livestream or in the arena to shout in excitement. Secret masterfully took a  3-1 series victory over Liquid to bag them the crown in the Dota 2 Shanghai Majors.

Secret captain and long time veteran Clement “Puppey” Ivanov proudly claims the Mystic Staff trophy of the Shanghai Major alongside pub star Omar “w33haa” Aliwi and engineering student turned professional Dota 2 player Jacky “EternalEnvy” Mao. Joining them on the winner’s podium are Johan “pieliedie” Astrom and Rasmus “Misery” Filipsen.

Liquid captain Salehi “Kuroky” Takhasomi and the rest of his team settle for second place but should still stand proud for their achievements.

Multi-billion dollar corporation Valve organized this grand event at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai, China. The best 16 teams from all over the world duked it out for the lion’s share of the hefty $3 million prize pool. Shanghai Major champions Team Secret took home nearly Php 52 million while runner-ups Team Liquid still get a respectable Php 18 million.

The next Valve-sponsored Major will take place in June of this year in Manila. The Dota 2 Majors tournaments are a series of premier Dota 2 events that pit the world’s best teams against one another. The previous Major was held in Frankfurt, Germany late last year. The upcoming Manila Major will feature a similar prize pool of Php 141 million and will be the last Major before it wraps up the season with the largest Dota 2 event, The International 6, in Seattle, USA later this year.
