Sports Legends Shaquille O’Neal, Alex Rodriguez and Jimmy Rollins to Invest in an ESports Team
Move over Mark Cuban, even sports stars are looking to get in on eSports.
In an announcment given Thursday, NRG eSports said that multiple time NBA-champion and part-owner of the Sacramento Kings, Shaquille O’Neal, New York Yankees infielder Alex Rodriguez and Chicago White Sox shortstop Jimmy Rollins have all invested in the organization. NRG eSports currently fields teams in League of Legends and Counterstrike: Global Offensive.

As both Miller and O’Neal are co-owners of the Kings, their existing relationship made it easier to get Shaq on-board and involved in eSports.
O’Neal had his first taste of the eSports industry space last December. At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), where O’Neal is a host for the Turner Broadcast Network’s sports segments, he shared the show with the qualifying tournament for Turner’s ELEAGUE CSGO league.
O’Neal is the second in what is looking like a steady stream of NBA talents investing into eSports. His former LA Lakers teammate, Rick Fox, founded Echo Fox last year. Fox’s organization is currently involved in League of Legends and CSGO.
