The International 2016: EG and Secret Advance to Seattle
By Kurt Lozano
Team Secret and Evil Geniuses (EG) are both going to The International 2016 (TI6) after a grueling run through the Open Qualifiers and the main Regional Qualifiers.
After grinding through the European Open Qualifiers, Team Secret went through the most stacked Regional Qualifier to face the likes of Team Empire, Alliance, and Escape Gaming (ESC). Secret was one of the top teams during the round robin stage with wins over Power Rangers, Alliance, Vega Squadron, Ad Finem, and Flipside Tactics, while losing to Virtus Pro, fellow Open Qualifier winners Fantastic Five, and ESC. However, Secret forced a tiebreaker for 1st place with ESC and Fantastic Five (F5) after winning over Team Empire, who famously eliminated them from the Manila Major.
Despite losing to both ESC and F5 in the round robin, Secret defeated both in the tiebreakers to become the first team to qualify for TI6 from the European region.
EG meanwhile breezed through the round robin of the Americas Qualifier, defeating Void Boys, Vultur, FDL, and Drinking Boys while losing out to complexity Gaming (coL). EG bounced back against coL in the tiebreakers to secure their invite and their chance to defend the Aegis of Champions at TI6.
Secret and EG will be joining SEA Qualifier winner TNC as the first three teams to qualify for The International 2016.
