StarCraft is getting remastered
Blizzard classic StarCraft is slated to be remastered this 2017. It is the latest in Blizzard’s plan to remaster its old games for the modern world. StarCraft: Remastered retains all your favorites from the 1998 classic; same campaigns, same maps, same gameplay, same balance, but now offers it all in glorious 4K resolution and updated audio. It’s also bringing back the online aspect of the beloved RTS, and adds matchmaking, a competitive ladder, and social features. StarCraft: Remastered contains both the original and the expansion pack Brood War.
“StarCraft is a pure distillation of Blizzard’s DNA—its story, its balance, and all the little details reflect our long-running commitment to epic entertainment, and it’s been a staple in competitive gaming and esports for almost 20 years,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “With StarCraft: Remastered, we’re modernizing the original game’s visuals, audio, and online support to ensure that players can enjoy StarCraft for another 20 years and beyond.”
With the announcement of StarCraft: Remastered, Blizzard will also be offering StarCraft Anthology, which includes the original game and the Brood War expansion, for free download.
A long time coming
Fans have been waiting for Blizzard’s official announcement of StarCraft: Remastered for almost two years now. What started as a rumor in November 2015 that Blizzard was remaking its classics have now come into fruition. Blizzard posted a job opening on their website for a Senior Software Engineer, where the job description teased that they were working on something for Warcraft III, Diablo 2, and StarCraft.
Although no official exact release date has been announced, Blizzard says that they are preparing to release it this Summer 2017, with pricing and other related information to be announced at a later date.
