PH vs PH Showdown at the LoL SEA Tour Playoffs
It’s Filipino vs Filipino as the League of Legends SEA Tour playoffs kickoff with PH-based teams Liyab Esports and Steelwoves Gaia facing off in the first round.
Liyab Esports showed a very dominant performance towards the beginning of the Summer Split, boasting an initial 4-0 record. This established themselves as a contender for winning the split and possibly attending the prestigious 2019 League of Legends World Championship.
However, Liyab’s dominance began to crumble as the split progressed — losing to the previous split’s champion in MEGA and a dark horse in WIN Esports. Liyab finished the regular season with a 5-2 record, placing them as the 3rd season coming into the playoffs.
On the other hand, Steelwolves Gaia have been on the other end of the spectrum — struggling throughout the entire split to secure wins against the other South East Asian opponents. Despite the struggles and their status as newcomers to the LST, Steelwolves Gaia were able to barely cinch a playoffs spot as the 6th seed.
With an overall record of 2-5, Steelwolves only took games off the two teams that placed lower than them.
Both these teams have a lot to prove coming into the match, especially with a shot at a League of Legends World Championship slot on the line.
Be sure to checkout the match this weekend Saturday, September 7 at 9PM as well as the semifinals which will take place the day after on September 8.
