FPX Takes Down Reigning LPL Champion; Top Esports Knocks Out LCK’s Last Hope in Semifinals of Mid-Season Cup 2020
Top Esports and FunPlus Phoenix decisively advance to the Finals of the Mid-Season Cup 2020, turning the finals into a civil war between the Chinese overlords.
In the first series of the day, FunPlus Phoenix had a rough start against the Spring champions JD Gaming in the blind pick with Seo “Kanavi” Jin-hyeok carrying from the jungle. However, FPX stood their ground to comeback in Game 2 and continue their winstreak to take the series win. The 2019 World Champions had their solo lanes in Kim “Khan” Dong-ha and Kim “Doinb” Tae-sang doing the heavy lifting to close out the series 3-1.
After narrowly knocking out T1 Esports in the groups tiebreaker, Top Esports had a rough series ahead of them against the dominant Gen.G from Group B. But, as we’ve seen, Gen.G fell under the pressure against Top Esports in the semifinals. Top Esports mid laner Zhuo “knight” Ding made a name for himself throughout the series with dominant performances on Ekko and Syndra. As unexpected as it was, Gen.G’s loss means that Korea has once again failed to succeed internationally.
The Mid-Season Cup 2020 is a part of the 2020 Mid-Season Streamathon replacing MSI 2020. The Finals of the Mid-Season Cup 2020 will continue tomorrow 5:00 P.M. on YouTube, Twitch, and LoL Esports.
