LGD Return to Worlds After Knocking Out IG in Regionals
LGD return to the international stage after knocking out former world champions Invictus Gaming 3-1 in the LPL 2020 Regional Finals.
Despite being knocked out of playoffs in the semifinals, LGD defied expectations by taking down IG and World Elite earlier in the bracket. In the first round of regionals, Suning took down LGD 3-0 giving them one last chance to qualify for Worlds.
In the following series, Jungler Han “Peanut” Wang-ho and Mid Laner Su “xiye” Han-Wei were back on form and dominated the Rift. The mid-jungle duo outperformed Song “Rookie” Eui-jin and Gao “Ning” Zhen-Ning and were key in taking away their chance of a trip to Worlds.
LGD’s success comes after placing 15th in Spring and 6th in Summer where no one expected them to go as far as taking down Invictus Gaming out of Worlds contention.
LGD qualifying for the Worlds Play-in marks Peanut and Xiye’s return to Worlds since 2017. They will be hoping to qualify for the Group Stage by placing at the top of play-ins.
