G2 and TSM Advance To LEC and LCS Grand Finals After Back-to-Back Silver Scrapes
After back-to-back Silver Scrapes across the West, G2 Esports and Team SoloMid crawl their way back to the Grand Finals of their respective regions.
In the League of Legends European Championship, G2 Esports are set to take on Fnatic for the crown once again after taking down Rogue 3-2 in the lower bracket. Meanwhile in the League of Legends Championship Series, Yilliang “Doublelift” Peng and Team SoloMid took their revenge against Team Liquid and earned their spot to fight FlyQuest in the Grand Finals.
Despite falling in Game 1, G2 Esports never let up and took Games 2 and 3 away from Rogue through the clutch plays of Mihael “Mikyx” Mehle’s Taric and Rasmus “Caps” Borregaard Winther’s Zoe. However, Emil “Larssen” Larsson would tie up the series to match point with his Akali in Game 4. When it mattered, Luka “Perkz” Perković stepped up on Senna with an 81% K/P to secure their finals berth against Fnatic.
In North America, Team SoloMid’s rookie jungler Mingyi “Spica” Lu was performing well on carry picks such as Nidalee and his off-meta Shen pickup. With TSM’s bot duo returning to form, Team SoloMid looked better than they have been throughout the split. In Game 5, a Zilean lock in by Søren “Bjergsen” Bjerg secured the series for TSM with a dive comp using Sergen “Broken Blade” Çelik’s Irelia.
Against G2, Rogue showed diversity in their playstyle and an aggressive early-game that the team lacked earlier in the season. For Team Liquid, their tendency to force objectives in unfavorable situations was heavily punished by TSM. Despite impressive showings by the teams, they will be looking to keep on improving their play in time for Worlds 2020.
The Grand Finals of the LEC continues tomorrow with the Battle of Kings starting tomorrow at 11:00 P.M. on YouTube and Twitch. The Grand Finals of the LCS begins shortly afterwards on September 7 at 4:00 A.M. on YouTube and Twitch.
